The Confederate Alamo is the first book-length study ever written about the chaotic and bloody Battle of Fort Gregg. By April 2, 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant’s men had tightened their noose around the vital town of Petersburg, Virginia. Trapped on three sides with a river at their back, the soldiers from General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia had never faced such dire circumstances.
To give Lee time to craft an escape, a small motley group of threadbare Southerners made a suicidal last stand at a place called Fort Gregg. Famous Civil War historian Douglas Southall Freeman described this fight as “one of the most dramatic incidents of an overwhelming day.” The venerable Union commander, Major General John Gibbon, observed, “[t]he struggle was one of the most desperate ever witnessed.”

Finally after 138-years, a historian has taken the time to update the list of Confederate dead buried in one of the most beautiful and sacred places – Richmond’s Hollywood Cemetery. The Southern soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their young country and were buried at Hollywood, usually with little pomp or ceremony, have been waiting for proper recognition for a long time. Now, thanks to Hollywood Cemetery expert and historian Chris Ferguson the cry of these brave soldiers from across the ages has finally been answered. This is the first comprehensive and accurate roster of Confederate dead buried in the South’s most famous cemetery. Nearly 14,000 soldiers listed by name, rank, unit, birth & death dates, burial plot, and brief personal comments. Nothing like this exists anywhere!
Foreword by Robert E. L. Krick, Richmond National Park Service historian

Wiregrass to Appomattox follows a regiment of Georgia Confederates as they travel from the Wiregrass region to the seat of war in Virginia. The author, a great-great grandson of two of the regiment's soldiers, discovered numerous unpublished letters, diaries, and photos as he assembled this never-before-told-story. Come follow these men as they fought in James Longstreet's First Corps at bloody places like South Mountain, Sharpsburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Cedar Creek, and Sailor's Creek. Hear their voices as they struggle for survival even while they worry about their wounded friends and their own families back home.
WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT Wiregrass to Appomattox:
“A lively account supplemented by many anecdotes and perspectives from previously unpublished primary sources.” Michael Russert, Civil War News, May 2009
“In terms of illustrations, author and publisher went far beyond the norm.” “Wiregrass to Appomattox is an impressively researched, detail oriented, and comprehensive military history of the 50th Georgia’s distinguished Civil War service.”
Andrew Wagenhoffer, “Civil War Books & Authors” blog
His writing is terse. His facts sing with accuracy. He has obviously followed in the footsteps of his regiment, and knows his men and their battles.”
Richard N. Larsen, The Midwest Book Review
"A meticulous account of what happened to the 1,400 men in the regiment and the path that led from enlistment in 1862 to Gen. Robert E. Lee’s surrender in 1865.” Sharon Kant-Rauch, Tallahassee Democrat newspaper
“Excellent maps and abundant modern-day views of the battle grounds on which the 50th Georgia fought enable the reader to follow the action in good order. This augments the volume’s usefulness as a battlefield companion. This history is a most welcome addition for any student of the Army of Northern Virginia. Mr. Parrish has done his research well, and the result is a solid account of a neglected regiment from a largely forgotten brigade. I highly recommend this book.” Dave Richards, Gettysburg NPS guide

In February 1864, Union General William Sooy Smith led a force of over seven thousand cavalry on a raid into the Mississippi Prairie, bringing fire and destruction to one of the very few breadbaskets remaining in the Confederacy. Smith's raid was part of General William T. Sherman's campaign to march across Mississippi from Vicksburg to destroy the railroad junction at Meridian. Both Smith and Sherman intended to burn everything in their path that could aid in the Southern war effort. It was a harbinger of things to come in Georgia, South Carolina and the Shenandoah Valley. But neither reckoned on the appearance of General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Forrest's small Confederate cavalry force defeated Smith in a running battle that stretched from West Point to Okolona and beyond. Forrest's victory prevented Smith from joining Sherman and saved the Prairie from total destruction. Join Civil War historian Brandon Beck as he narrates this exciting story, with all the realities and color of cavalry warfare in the Deep South.
